A Passive Resistance

A Passive Resistance

A Passive Resistance

A Passive Resistance is inspired by Derrick Jensen’s, “Endgame”. Cited in a documentary directed by Franklin Lopez on YouTube, 1st of July,2013, and the slow death of my aunty which I witnessed during the time of this course.

The death of this tree, is symbolic of global warming, and the war against the environment, which is frequently labelled WWIII. The drip that feeds the patient expresses the connection we have to the earth and the passively dying woman reflects the future of humanity and the attitude humanity has in allowing ‘slow industrial genocide’ by fascist corporations. The foot prints in the sand symbolise the ghosts of the past and the facts of destruction, while the ocean washes away the evidence in time. The ocean also gives rise to the hypnotic effect it has on our culture, and how we are drawn irrationally to the ocean front despite the destructiveness that imposes on the environment. We effectively are loving it to death by more clearing of land so that we can be closer to the water front. We call ourselves eco conscious, by recycling and buying green products, but it isn’t working. It is a “Passive Resistance”, brought about by fear of being labelled, extremist or terrorist, but “A passive resistance” will ultimately lead to a slow and passive death.
